CurriculumThe Concordia Choir from Merano in the north of Italy was
founded in 1951 by a group of friends including Fernando Martinelli
who led the choir until 1989. The choir has taken part in various competitions
and given numerous concerts first at local level in Trentino/Alto Adige,
a bilingual province in Northern Italy, and then in the central Italian
regions of the Marche, Tuscany, the Venice area, Lombardy and Piedmont.
The choir has also sung at prestigious international choir meetings
in France, Germany, Austria and Slovenia. The first opportunity to sing
overseas came in 1992 when the choir was invited to represent Italy
at the Massachussefs Celebrations for the quincentenial Anniversary
of the Discovery of America. The choir returned to the USA in 1996 and
again in 2000 and held very successful concerts in Washington, New York
and Canada. The Concordia made its first appearance in a recording studio
to record an LP way back in 1954 and then recorded a cassette entitled
"Canto e Cante" in 1996. In 1997, Concordia made a VHS video retelling its history and memories of its founder, including on the video several pieces from its vast repertoire. One recent high point for the choir members was when they sang in the Sala Nervi at the Vatican in Rome as well as in St. Peter's Cathedral and another great experience was taking part in the International Festival ofJuiz de Fora in Brazil in 1998, as recently happened on the occasion of the 9° Festival in September of 2003. This was followed by two recordings made for the ZDF, the German National Television Company, one in San Marino and the other in the Senales valley not far from Merano.
